Don't Run, Walk
My mom always
used to say:
“One foot in front
of the other, okay?”
“If you run ahead
you’ll miss the stuff
along the way.”
“You walk a mile
one step at a time.”
(She stole this.
It’s actually an
Indian Proverb.)
There was something
comforting in the
tone of her voice
that got me every time.
She sounded like she
knew what was best.
And I believed her.
But actually, these
trite little expressions
were + still are
filled with wisdom.
Because our journey
forward is jam-packed
with valuable lessons.
Especially when we choose
to walk instead of run.
