Internal Motivation

I wonder.

Do we ever take

notice of our internal

(or intrinsic)

motivation?

You know, the stuff we

enjoy doing for ourselves.

The vital activities

that keep us sharp,

happy + self-satisfied.

Whether it's planting,

painting, sailing, or singing

 doing various things

that we enjoy is a

positive activity that

will enhance our lives.

And any thing that

enhances our lives

usually makes us more

effective all 'round.

What kind of creative

things do you do for yourself?

Petta Reddast

Okay, so I’ve been

ruminating more than a

bit lately on 'petta reddast'

(tha-ta-reh-dst).

This is an Icelandic

phrase I’ve just

become aware of.

It has three

meaningful

translations.

One:

“It will all work

out okay.” or “It

will fix itself.”

Two:

A rallying cry of

optimism + hope (used

especially when things

don’t look optimistic).

Three:

A mind-set that

has faith in good

outcomes + in the future.

It’s obviously a phrase

packed with positivity.

And I’m inclined

to embrace all three.

So, when life gets tricky

with unwelcome realities.

Uncertain times.

“Bad news on the doorstep.”

I’m leaning-into some

full-on petta reddast!

Don't Run, Walk

My mom always

used to say:

“One foot in front

of the other, okay?”

“If you run ahead

you’ll miss the stuff

along the way.”

“You walk a mile

one step at a time.”

(She stole this.

It’s actually an

Indian Proverb.)

There was something

comforting in the

tone of her voice

that got me every time.

She sounded like she

knew what was best.

And I believed her.

But actually, these

trite little expressions

were + still are

filled with wisdom.

Because our journey

forward is jam-packed

with valuable lessons.

Especially when we choose

to walk instead of run.

Shake It Off

There will always be

 someone who doesn’t like us.

At some point or

 another they won’t like:

our face

our color

our smile

our voice

our views

our weight

our personality

our jokes

our laugh

our opinions

our accomplishments

our faith

our family

our work, etc.

And for those of us

who are a bit more

sensitive than others,

it stings.

But, if we can accept

this + get beyond it,

we can dance.

And we can

shake it off!

Sight Without Vision

Someone once asked

Helen Keller:

“Is anything worse

than being blind?”

She kindly replied:

“Yes, to have sight

but no vision.”

How profoundly true.

One of the definitions

of vision is:

“The ability to think

about or plan the

future with imagination

or wisdom.”

And this requires

seeing with intuition,

inspiration + insight.

All of these descriptors

play a part in how

we see things.

They also help us

stay curious + creative.

So, if we want a

real breath of view,

we’ll keep our

imaginative eyes open.

After all, how can

we make our dreams

a reality if we have

sight, but no vision.

The Right Side

Don’t ‘cha wish

we were all on

the same side?

The side of :

...love + mercy.

…tolerance + kindness

…compassion + fairness

…forgiveness + peace

It’s the best side.

It’s the right side.

And, it’s the only

 side that counts.

Every other side

 is sorely lacking.

Every other side

will pass away.

Cheers for being a

supportive + encouraging
